The Power of the Written Word
Today I want to acknowledge the power of the written word! Just yesterday I found some love-notes and they made me smile. These little moments re-capture the love that you have in your life and on a personal level I believe these moments are priceless.
With that in mind I thought we could explore this topic a little further. So I went to my go-to-girls for all things words and here is what they had to say…Meet Alexandra Blakemore. She is the director of a beautiful stationery company named, French Navy. In just three easy steps you can design and own your own French Navy stationery! Today, we ask Alexandra what the power of the written word means to her.
“The power of the written word lies in both its personal nature and permanence. Nothing is more personal than heartfelt communication that’s privately shared between the writer and the recipient. And, due to its permanent nature, this communication can be read and reread as often as one likes.”
Love A x www.frenchnavy.com.auI also asked my gorgeous sister Lauren, pictured above on the right with her best-friend Jade at a wedding. (I just love her leopard scarf!) Lauren is a former journalist who now works freelances as a researcher and writer, and she is my go-to person when it comes to all things words. Here are her thoughts on what the power of the written word means to her…
“The written word is a primal tool for communication. Letters, news, novels and songs, we use words to record what happened, when, how and to whom. Without body language, a text is just a text. All the beauty, horror, lust and anxiety exists within our interpretation of the words on the page. No two people can have the same reading of a text, because we make sense of written words within the context of our experiences.”

Lauren also introduced me to an amazing book in my early 20′s called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. The Artist’s Way provides a twelve-week course that guides you through the process of recovering your creative self. It aims to dispel the ‘I’m not talented enough’ conditioning that holds many people back, and helps you to unleash your own inner artist.
Upon reflection I have found that when I began my blog writing many years later, I first began writing about fictional characters in the Superwomen series, which were in effect psuedo characters of myself. Today I have peeled back the layers of fear, and rejection and can now share and write straight from my heart, showing my true self to my readers.
The written word, has powered my heart to skip a beat and go back in time. All at that one moment, it filled my body with love and wellbeing. It has also powered a damn good grocery list, and created many a financial budget to set women up for the rest of their lives.
The power of the written word is priceless when you use it to reshape your life!
I hope you enjoyed today’s post!
