HOW TO: Clash it, If you can’t match it
A very talented editor at Vogue once said, “If you can’t match it, clash it.” These are words I live by, especially this season as a mama who spends a lot of her time at soft play areas and as a woman who wants to mix the old with the new.
Where I differ from Ms Wintour is that my take is all about the balance between glamorous and practical. Today, I’ve put together a personal favourite, using existing items in my wardrobe plus a relatively recent buy – a pair of Massimo Dutti shorts that I’ve already worn 100 times!
Some of the strongest looks on the runways this season are clashing patterns. Thankfully, that’s a look that’s easy to make on your own! This summer dressing for me is all about accessorizing the loose fitting with the practical.
Leggings and a t-shirt may be comfy, but it’s not a look to set the world alight. Instead, I prefer loose-fitting tops, with a jacket and shorts. My best pair of shorts of the season is this wonderful pair from Massimo Dutti. My Puma runners are more than eight years old, so they’re practically vintage! They look great and they’re oh-so comfortable.
Leopard print cami. This top is a little bit of luxury. Great for a touch of evening glam and the loose look and feel means I can also wear it in the day as casual. Pictured with my take on a printed tailored jacket. I designed it myself, the fabric cost me less than $15 to buy and the jacket $80 to make. This cotton fabric is amazing – perfect to breathe in the Dubai heat. All my friends are making them too and they are a fraction of the designer alternative.
My secret to looking glamorous with little time to spare is accessories! Here is a Burberry gold leather wrist wrap with Mimco leather bracelets – they give a bit of bling to my outfit. My bag is Burberry too it’s great for throwing in loads of things, including nappies, bottles and bibs!
