7 Signs your burning out & what to do to get your bounce back!
It’s all too easy to get swept up into the demands of work. Your boss asks you to take on a big project, you work a few hours of overtime, and soon you find yourself bringing your work home with you.
It’s not fair on the family and will have an impact on your kids. I know you want to feel light and happy again, but your rooted in self pity and feeling sorry for yourself actually feels good! Yep -these are all symptoms of burnout. Read on for seven common signs that you’re burning out and what to do about it!
1. You’re tired all the time
Is it a struggle to find the energy to get yourself up in the morning? Are you more and more dependent on your coffee? If you’re overworking yourself, the added stress and extra hours may mean that your body isn’t getting enough time to recover and reset itself for the next day.
2. It’s hard to feel enthusiastic about work
Do you suddenly find yourself resenting a job that you used to enjoy? Does the thought of going into the office make you feel weary? Are you living for the weekends? Burnout makes feeling enthusiastic about work difficult. If you continue on the path you’re on, this symptom will only get worse.
3. You’re irritable
If you find that your temper is suddenly shorter than usual, this could be due to the stress that you’re under and the fact that you’re simply getting tired of your work. Your relations with coworkers may become strained because of this, and you’ll probably notice that the irritability doesn’t stay at the office – you might snap at friends and family.
4. You’re scatterbrained
Are you finding it hard to focus and buckle down? Easily distracted? When your body is overworked, your mind can’t function as sharply as it normally does. You may find that you’re forgetting things and missing important deadlines or meetings. This is a big sign telling you that you’re treading on thin ice with your body – you need some serious recovery time!
5. You’re just not yourself
Are you doing things that are uncharacteristic of your normal self, like diving into junk food or smoking or drinking more than normal? Are you having trouble sleeping, or sleeping much more than you normally do? Our bodies react to stress in a number of different ways, and these unusual habits could be your body’s way of reflecting the fact that it’s too stressed and overworked.
6. You can’t leave work at work
Is your work slowly taking over your life? Are you pondering work problems while you’re trying to relax during your weekend? If you find that work is encroaching on your mind constantly, even when you’re not there, then chances are that you need to take a step back and find a way to separate your work life from your private life.
7. You’re just unhappy
Are you working and working, but never feeling relieved or accomplished? Chances are, if you’re overworked and overtaxing yourself then you won’t feel the satisfaction that you used to. Soon you’ll be caught in a vicious cycle – you’ll work harder to try to feel satisfied and happy, but when you don’t feel that sense of reward, then you’ll work harder to try to feel satisfied…. and on and on.
I have personally felt burnout and what I did about it was take some action, I went to see my homeopathic doctor in Dubai. Dr Jawad, of Dubai Homeopathy Centre. He is located on Al Wasal Rd, just opposite Park & Shop and he has an amazing understanding of the human body. His remedy’s can help you calm down and see the light, find your bounce and get focused on what’s important again.
Secondly if the problem or stress is something deeper you may want to try some alternative therapy. I have visited a wonderful lady named Michelle- she is a Kenisologist. If you would like to see Michelle please contact me directly and I’ll pass on the details.
There is no shame in burnout, but there is shame when you don’t do something about it and the stress is then shared with your family members. Remember, taking these little steps today may preserve your career later on down the line.
Good luck!
